To begin with, Dr. Wang analyzed the global and domestic LED market trends. Dr. Wang said that the lighting market now witnesses explosive growth. The Chinese market trend is consistent with the global trend, and the Chinese market sees rapid industrial transfer. The lighting market began to become the principal force for the growth of the LED market, and the demand for chips grows significantly in China. On the current status of the LED chip industry, Dr. Wang said that the current domestic LED chip market has low concentration and production capacity chiefly depends on small companies; however, LED chip belongs to a capital- and technology-intensive industry. 

As the industry increasingly matures, companies with technological and scale advantages will have a bigger market share. As a leading LED chip producer in China, HC Semitek has leading-edge epitaxial materials and technology. nevertheless, HC Semitek’s R&D team is still endeavoring to make improvement in quantum efficiency of epitaxial wafers, extraction efficiency of chips, high-current performance, high-temperature performance, conversion efficiency of phosphor, packaging light extraction efficiency, device thermal management and lower chip voltage, with a view to producing better LED chips.

Moreover, Dr. Wang also shared HC Semitek’s achievements in GaN-based LED chip technology, including how to lower or eliminate the droop effect, boost extraction efficiency, improve the efficiency of green LED chips, cut costs and improve chip efficiency.

Finally, regarding HC Semitek’s research results in chip-level systematic solutions, Dr. Wang introduced two products, high-voltage chips and flip-chips. High-voltage chips feature high reliability, compact design, even current distribution, and improved light emitting efficiency of packaged devices, becoming the best solution for cutting the costs of LED lighting systems in lighting. Flip chips feature lower chip thermal resistance, better chip light extraction, elimination of gold wire, etc., making it the best solution for super-current driving in lighting and backlight market applications.
