From September, Street Lamps in Malaysia to Be Gradually Replaced with LED Lamps, Saving 50% Power
2019-4-8

Zuraida binti Kamaruddin, Minister of Housing and Local Government of the Republic of Malaysia, announced that since September, the country’s street lamps would be gradually replaced with LED bulbs to save 50% of the power.

According to The Star, nearly 80% of the street lamps in Malaysia use ordinary bulbs instead of the energy-saving and environmentally friendly LED bulbs.

She said that the bidding process would be completed in June, followed by a three-month trial in Ampang.

“If the pilot work goes well, we will implement the plan nationwide from September.”

Zuraida said the ministry will also explore the installation of CCTV in specific locations to help fight offenders and arrest litterers.

“This project will also start from Ampang and then to Malaysia nationwide. We hope that CCTV will not only reduce the crime rate, but also stop local people and foreigners from littering.”

She said that the ministry would also explore the replacement of lamps of shops and logos of buildings with LED lamps.
